Obama, congressional leaders to talk health care Feb. 25

See about obama budget

President Obama and a bipartisan group of leaders from the Senate and the House will meet February 25 for specific talks aimed at a compromise on health care legislation, a White House official told CNN on Sunday.

Those same leaders already are scheduled to go to the White House on Tuesday for broader bipartisan talks on health, the jobs bill and other topics. Tuesday's meeting will now set the table for the February 25 health talks, and it also will be the first fulfillment of the president's promise in his State of the Union address to start monthly meetings with congressional Republicans.

A Democratic Capitol Hill source confirmed the February 25 date for the talks.

First lady Michelle Obama launches campaign against childhood obesity

This post from source chicagotribune.com.
WASHINGTON (AP) — First lady Michelle Obama says she loves burgers and fries, but she wants her daughters — and the rest of America's children — to learn about better nutrition and exercise.

On Tuesday, she is launching Let's Move, a nationwide campaign to fight childhood obesity.

In an interview in Tuesday's USA Today, Mrs. Obama said the campaign will encourage more physical activity for children, healthier food in schools and more accurate food labeling. Some of her initiatives, such as tax breaks for grocery stores to move into poorly served communities, will require congressional action.

"I would move heaven and earth to give my kids all the chance in the world for them to be at the top of their game in every way, shape and form," Mrs. Obama told the newspaper. "Let's Move operates under the principle that every family wants the same thing for their kid. So we're going to figure out how to make it easier for them to get it."

In an interview with ABC News, Mrs. Obama acknowledged: "I love burgers and fries. And I love ice cream and cake. And so do most kids."

But, she added: "We're not talking about a lifestyle that excludes all that. The question is how do we help people balance that out so that they're not facing life-threatening, preventable illnesses, but they're enjoying their food, they're eating their vegetables, they're doing their running and walking and playing and still have time to get a good, fun meal in every once in a while."

President Obama to the Democratic Party: "This is our best chance to deliver the change that the American people need"

On Saturday, as Washington was blanketed with snow, President Obama spoke to members of the Democratic Party at the 2010 Winter Meeting. In a fiery speech, the President reiterated his fierce commitment to fighting for health insurance reform:
"The easiest thing to do right now would be to just say, oh, [passing health reform] is too hard, let's just re-group and lick our wounds, try to hang on. We've had a long and difficult debate on health care. And there are some, maybe even the majority in this town, who say perhaps it's time to walk away. But...if we walk away, we know what will happen. We know that premiums and out-of-pocket expenses will skyrocket this decade and the decade after that and decade after that, just as they did in the past decade. More small businesses will be priced out of coverage. More big businesses will be unable to compete internationally. More workers will take home less pay and fewer raises. We know that millions more Americans will lose their coverage. We know that our deficits will inexorably continue to grow because health care costs are the single biggest driver.

So just in case there's any confusion out there, let me be clear: I am not going to walk away from health insurance reform. I'm not going to walk away from the American people. I'm not going to walk away on this challenge."

Its be ok if i started right now?
President Barack Obama on Wednesday implored Democratic leaders to swing big, be honest with an angry public and expose any obstructionism by Republicans. "We still have to lead," Obama told Democratic senators in a pep talk that unfolded on live TV. Let policy be our politics, Obama told the senators, and make sure everyone knows about petty acts by the opposition. Obama's mission is to stiffen the resolve of his own party as he pursues an agenda that is consistent -- creating jobs, overhauling health insurance, regulating Wall Street -- yet is also cast in more personal, real-life terms.
